SUPPORTERS OF STONEWALL
Chesterfield High School has become a Stonewall Champion school; this has involved the school creating a whole school action plan to tackle homophobia and ensure that our school is a safe place for everyone - students, staff, parents, carers and all our many visitors.
What is Stonewall?
Stonewall is a charity renowned for its campaigning and lobbying. Some major successes include helping achieve the equalisation of the age of consent, lifting the ban on LGB people serving in the military, securing legislation which allowed same-sex couples to adopt and the repeal of Section 28. More recently Stonewall has helped secure civil partnerships and then same-sex marriage, and ensured that the recent Equality Act protected lesbian, gay and bi people in terms of goods and services.

WE ARE A HOLOCAUST BEACON SCHOOL
Chesterfield has recently been named a Holocaust Education Beacon School through the Centre for Holocaust Education. This is the only institution in the world to combine research into classroom needs with programmes specifically designed to enable teachers to meet those needs and challenges related to Holocaust Education. The Centre works in partnership with Pears Foundation and is also funded by the Department for Education (DfE). Recent national research with students showed they encountered the Holocaust within their school curriculum across year groups and in a range of subject areas. We aim to enrich student understanding and disseminate this across our link schools.
Chesterfield is one of 17 Beacon schools in England who are committed to enhancing the teaching and learning about the Holocaust. We will become a dynamic hub serving a network of local schools and will partner with the Centre to improve standards, raise pupil achievement and strengthen SMSC provision. We are committed to the view that the Holocaust is a critically important part of young people’s education while appreciating the complex challenges that this raises as a school subject.

NACE specialises in working with schools and teachers to improve learning for able learners.
Founded in 1983, NACE is recognised nationally and internationally as the UK’s leading independent education organisation in the field of education for able learners.
Through its valuable network of members NACE provides high quality guidance, support and training, enabling teachers to attain the best from able learners in the everyday classroom, whilst enabling all learners to flourish and achieve.
NACE is concerned with supporting schools in getting the very best for their able children. The evidence is now strongly pointing towards the fact that if schools meet the needs of the more able it benefits all.

Getting involved with KOOTH
A group of Chesterfield High school students took part and created the Radio City adverts on how they have coped during the lockdown. The students, along with Mr Sexton and Mrs Steele worked on a Zoom conference call from school and home with representatives from Radio City.
They have produced a series of adverts promoting Kooth, the mental health app, which offers a range of support and advice for young people. We hope you get to hear them and we congratulate all of those involved for such an amazing piece of work for the local community and students all across Merseyside. The advert has been co-produced between Public Health partners and the school
The Girls' Network AT CHESTERFIELD
Our Girls' Network Programme with Year 11 and Sixth Form girls has continued throughout the summer, despite the lockdown restrictions. The girls were introduced to their mentors during the summer term - albeit virtually - and have continued to meet for their mentor sessions throughout the summer. They were also invited to attend a number of virtual workshops including:
- Mindfulness motivation- giving the girls the tools to get to know themselves on a deeper level and begin to question what they really want out of life
- Virtual Psychology investigating the brain and beyond
- Confidence workshop – an interactive workshop showing girls how to communicate with confidence and build self-belief, filling their confidence backpack
The programme will continue throughout the autumn term
